Economic success and sustainable principles are not contradictions, as impressively proved by the nominees for the «Umweltpreis der Wirtschaft» among which Elite has the honour to be part of this year. These pioneering companies are all passionate about shaping tomorrow’s entrepreneurial world and are not only successful in their segments but also raising the profile of ecological solutions.
Like our Smart Lease innovation, developed to adapt to hotel constraints. Smart Lease allows hoteliers to have Elite beds and mattresses with EU Ecolabel certification, a guarantee of quality and well-being in the field of luxury sleep, and to pay only according to their use. By recording usage data, the wear and tear of the products is also measured. Depending on the occupancy rate of the individual rooms, the mattresses are moved from one room to another to reduce wear and tear.
In a wellness society, guests are no longer satisfied with a simply well-decorated room with a beautiful view; the bed is still the most important piece of furniture in a hotel room and is often forgotten or neglected, thus creating customer loyalty. With Smart Lease, we offer hoteliers the means to surprise their guests and satisfy them with top quality bedding.
We want to demonstrate that an environmentally friendly product is first and foremost a product that lasts as long as possible. We also offer repair and maintenance solutions that extend the life cycle of mattresses, such as the associated Ecoclean service, which eliminates bacteria, dust mites and viruses from bedding.
If we want to preserve our planet for future generations, then the economy must be part of the solution. Switzerland’s most influential environmental prize is thus awarded to innovative companies which combine economic success with ecological impact.
A unique selection process involving national business federations and environmental organisations ensures that the most convincing solutions are identified each year. An interdisciplinary body of experts selects the five best projects from the 40 which have been nominated. These companies then present their ideas to a high-profile jury. Under the leadership of former Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard, the jury then selects three finalists to make presentations at the CE2 Day event before deciding on the winner.
The award is given in partnership with the Swiss Environmental Foundation and the “Go for Impact” association, which functions as an umbrella for the BAFU (Federal Department of the Environment), economiesuisse, öbu, Swissmem and WWF Schweiz, among others.
The «Umweltpreis der Wirtschaft» will be awarded on 17 September 2020 at the «CE2 - Circular Economic Entrepreneurs», the Swiss Economic Forum’s new platform, in Langenthal.

The 2025 Elite Design Awards winners are four women: Weronika Poręba from Poland (first prize), Clothilde Verdim from France (second prize) and British designer partners Rachel Forster and Ella Doran (third prize). Hailing from Mrocza, Paris and London respectively, the winners have come up with three outstanding bed designs, each offering their own take on this year’s theme of Arts and Crafts, a style that emerged in the nineteenth century seeking to honour craftsmanship rather than industrialisation.
